Jonathan Newman is an ecologist who studies plant-animal interactions in the context of species invasions and climatic change. He is the lead author of two books: Climate Change Biology (CABI Press, 2011), and Defending Biodiversity: Environmental Science and Ethics (Cambridge University Press, 2017). He is the author of more than 100 other scientific publications. He has supervised 25 postgraduate students and four postdoctoral students. Personal Jonathan Newman is a native New Yorker, and now also a Canadian citizen.
He is married to Professor Georgia Mason, Department of Animal Bioscience, at the University of Guelph. He enjoys cigars, Manhattan cocktails, and contemporary art. He has a 23-year old son, Griffin, who lives in Toronto. Jonathan also spent 24 years (1981–05) as a logistics officer in the US Army and Army Reserve.
