Dr. Mario Thomas is an accomplished senior executive with solid international credentials in innovation. With over 30 years in leadership roles, he creates value for all stakeholders. He brings extensive experience filled with achievements in the innovation sector driving successful collaborations and ventures.
Dr. Thomas is presently Chief Executive Officer of the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario at University of Guelph. He recently served as President of Proteocyte Diagnostics; Managing Director of the Centre of Excellence for Commercialization of Research and Senior Vice-President of Ontario Centres of Excellence Inc. His previous experience includes Partner in the venture capital firm T2C2/Bio CEO and co-founder of start-up companies Terragen Discovery Inc. and EntoMed SA. He has held senior level executive positions at BioChem Pharma Inc., Burroughs Wellcome Ltd. and Johnson & Johnson Inc. Dr. Thomas was also the founding Chair of the International Commercialization Alliance.
He holds a Ph.D. In Chemistry from Université Laval in Quebec City, as well as a diploma in business administration from Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales of Université de Montréal. He is also a chartered director with a diploma in board governance and has served on numerous boards of directors.
